Another great story with impactful messages. This book tells a story, it does not read like a textbook, as many leadership books tend to. One message in particular hits close to home- literally... She does a great job detailing the parallels of how healthy work habits and rituals can also help at home. She explains the importance in using these why these practises can also help at home. She does a great job simplifying the complex struggles we all face in leadership roles- How such simple acts make such a huge impact on others and the entire organization. A must read for anyone working to maintain (or gain) a 24/7 balanced life inside and outside of work. Excellent book with practical advice on how to build stronger teams who are more engaged and motivated. Laurie-Ann writes from a unique perspective with knowledge obviously gained from years of personal real-world experience. I highly recommend this useful and quick read. Everyone who reads it will gain from her insight.
I like the book, eavesdropping always holds my attention. I can be free to hear the solution and then apply it to my own situations.
As an employer of many, leadership is far more than a checklist, it's a number of personal characteristics that you may possess but may need to be brought to the surface and Laurie-Ann gets that point across.
I picked up this book on a whim. It was on the "Top Hot New Release" list. It's a quick read with lots of great skills every leader and sales person should utilize. The story is entertaining and relatable. The questions and exercises at the end of the chapter drive home the message and encourage you create a plan to have a greater impact on those around you. I highly recommend this for anyone in sales, HR, leadership, or any entrepreneur looking to impact their customers & prospects.
What makes this book especially helpful is the story telling format. It is packed with easy to digest, helpful information about leadership, empowerment, and engagement. Yet, it never feels preachy or dry. The questions at the end of each chapter also aid in helping the reader "rethink" their own skills, and make the tips immediately actionable. It's a fairly quick read to begin with, but then I found myself going back to various chapters as specific circumstances came up. It's a good companion to Laurie Ann's first book, "Rethink Leadership 4 Lessons To Make You Remarkable."
Although this is a business book it is written in the style of a Novel and the author has done a fantastic job with it. She articulates the key points and learnings while also keeping the reader interested in how Alan (the main character) will progress in his quest to become a better leader.
What particularly resonated with me was the emphasis on Relationships as the catalyst to building Employee Engagement and create a Better Place to Work. Alan (through ongoing interactions with others) realizes he must connect with the people he is working with and recognize their individual and unique skills, ideas and needs. He works out that leadership needs ongoing attention and is best done as a partnership with those being led.
This is a great little read that can be completed in under 90 minutes…so it’s perfect for a flight, evening read before bed or spread over a couple of lunch breaks.
Laurie Ann has focused this book on a small collection of behaviors that must be modeled by all those who lead others. Many of her ideas are not new, in fact anyone with any length of successful experience in leadership will find many very familiar theories and practices right here.
She creates a small cast of Characters, including her "leader" and his "mentor" and (somewhat artificially forced) they focus on each point Laurie wants to make on how to lead people. Her intention in providing the "Everyman" approach is to offer a scenario where this company could easily be your company. And her fictional executive could easily be you. Hi staff can be your staff.
This approach lacks the details that often are compelling in real -life business case stories, but this approach is especially helpful for those who have problems extracting lessons from other industries.
This is a quick read, and a guide for entering your own thoughts. Laurie provides questions and blank pages at the end of each chapter. Recommended read

Laurie-Ann's book will definitely serve to help you rethink your leadership! The questions asked at the end of each chapter, create the perfect opportunity to develop awareness of how you personally wish to grow, as a leader, and as a person.This is a great resource for uncovering and discovering your unique style, no matter what stage of life, company, or team you may be leading. Laurie-Ann keeps your attention as her main character Alan, pieces together his own puzzle to reveal his leadership style, with the help of his mentor. I could not help but connect to him, and even root for him as he grows as a team leader in business, and as a family man. Personally, it was exciting to re-discover some things about my own unique communication style, and rethink through the questions, what I could do to be a better influencer with my partners in business. I was especially impressed with how Laurie-Ann reveals solutions to the generation gap as it relates to how leadership is delivered and received through communication. I am very happy to recommend this book to anyone who is moving up in a leadership position, may be stuck in moving teams forward, and to well seasoned leaders who need a refreshing perspective on how to better communicate and influence others. This was a very enjoyable read, and definitely lives up to its title!
